The all-star scale of American Horror Story: 13 made the question inevitable. With Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters and a long list of franchise veterans returning in multiple roles, and with Murphy himself describing the season as an Avengers-style gathering against an ultimate evil, many viewers assumed this was the endgame.

It is not.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter published in early August, Ryan Murphy stated the position clearly: “Season 13 is not the end. I’m working on Season 14 as we speak in terms of, ‘What’s the idea?’ and ‘Who wants to be in it?’”

The FX Commitment Remains Open-Ended

Murphy went further, citing the long-standing relationship with FX chairman John Landgraf. “I have a great passion for that show, and John Landgraf has a great passion for that show. It’s a very important show in my career. It’s something that John said, ‘As long as you want to keep making them, I’ll keep airing them.’ That’s always been the idea behind it, which is very empowering.”

The message is straightforward. The series continues for as long as Murphy wants to make it. Season 13 is a large-scale reunion and a deliberate tribute to the earlier chapters. It is not designed as a series finale.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is American Horror Story ending with Season 13?

No. Ryan Murphy has confirmed that Season 13 is not the final season and that he is already working on ideas for Season 14.

Where can I watch American Horror Story Season 13?

American Horror Story Season 13 streams on FX and Hulu in the United States. New episodes drop every Thursday through the October 29 finale.

Is American Horror Story Season 13 worth watching?

Yes for longtime fans. The season reunites characters from Murder House, Coven, Cult, Freak Show and more in a single story centered on the number 13 and the Apollyon.

Will there be an American Horror Story Season 14?

Yes. Ryan Murphy confirmed he is already working on Season 14 ideas and cast while Season 13 airs on FX and Hulu.

Why “Not the Final Season” Changes How You Watch 13

If Season 13 were a finale, every reunion would feel like a curtain call. Because Murphy has already said Season 14 is in active idea work, those same reunions feel like infrastructure. The Apollyon can return. The rules of thirteen can deepen. Characters who only appear briefly now can be rebuilt later. That changes the emotional contract with the audience.

John Landgraf’s open-ended support is the institutional version of the same message. FX is not treating the anthology as a show that must justify one last victory lap. It is treating it as a platform Murphy can keep using while the ideas remain strong. For American viewers who have watched networks cancel long-running experiments early, that stability is part of the story.

Practically, it means you can invest in theories that need more than one season. Ben’s true state, Nas’s nature, the full list of leading ladies, the long-term role of Club Hell — none of these require a closed ending in October 2026. They can seed 14.

It also means Season 13 should be judged as a chapter, not as a series finale that failed to say goodbye. The goodbye is not scheduled. The work is continuing.

What Season 14 Speculation Should Wait For

Murphy said he is working on ideas and on who wants to be in Season 14. That is not a plot leak. It is a staffing and theme statement. The useful fan response is to finish Season 13’s systems before demanding the next brochure. Which relationships inside the Apollyon still have unfinished business? Which rules of thirteen still have unused consequences? Those answers will shape 14 more than any rumor about a single returning face.

In the meantime, treat Season 13 as a live chapter. It is not a museum exhibit of the franchise. It is still moving.

Franchise Longevity Without Franchise Fatigue

The risk of an open-ended AHS is repetition. The opportunity is a shared universe that can still produce sealed, satisfying seasons. Murphy’s comments suggest he understands both. Season 13 is allowed to be large because 14 can be something else. Fans should hold him to that flexibility. A reunion chapter is exciting. A permanent reunion format would get old. The promise of 14 is valuable only if 14 is allowed to surprise.

Until Murphy announces a theme or a lead cast for Season 14, the most accurate public statement remains the one he already gave: Season 13 is not the end, and work on what comes next has already started. That is enough to change how you watch the current episodes. It is not enough to predict the next ones. Finish 13 first.

For now, the only responsible headline is the one Murphy already approved with his own words: American Horror Story Season 13 is not the final season, and Season 14 is already being worked on in the only way that matters at this stage — ideas, appetite, and who wants to return.
