PITTSBURGH — A 21-year-old man from Butler County, Pennsylvania, has been charged with receiving a firearm and ammunition with the intent to commit terrorism on behalf of ISIS, federal authorities announced.
What to know
Jonathan Hunter Kramer, also known online as Hamza Al-Rashid, was arrested after the FBI tracked him to a hotel. A search of his home and room recovered a semi-automatic rifle, five magazines (two loaded), approximately 190 rounds of ammunition, and 30 knives, according to court documents.
Prosecutors say Kramer had been on the FBI’s radar for about three years due to prior concerning behavior. He allegedly sought to carry out a mass-casualty attack inspired by the terrorist group and had discussed plans that included targeting a synagogue with poison.

This is at least the second ISIS-related plot disrupted by the FBI since August. Kramer appeared in federal court following his arrest. Authorities emphasized that the case underscores ongoing efforts to stop domestic threats linked to foreign terrorist organizations before they can act.
No injuries were reported in connection with the planned attack. The investigation remains active under the FBI’s Pittsburgh field office and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Pennsylvania.
