UNITED STATES — The Sheep Detectives is the Hugh Jackman family mystery-comedy climbing U.S. search charts as viewers look up the cast, plot, and streaming options months after its theatrical run.
Jackman plays George Hardy, a shepherd who reads detective novels aloud to his flock. After a mysterious incident on the farm, the sheep—convinced they understood every chapter—set out to investigate, teaming up with a bumbling local officer along the way.
Cast and creative team
Live-action roles include Nicholas Braun, Emma Thompson, Nicholas Galitzine, and Molly Gordon. Voice performers for the flock include Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Patrick Stewart, Chris O’Dowd, Bryan Cranston, Regina Hall, and Bella Ramsey. Kyle Balda directed from a Craig Mazin screenplay adapted from Leonie Swann’s novel Three Bags Full.
Reception
Critics largely praised the film as warm, funny family entertainment. It earned strong Rotten Tomatoes scores and later found a second life on streaming after a modest theatrical gross—helping explain the late surge in “Sheep Detectives movie” and “Hugh Jackman sheep” searches.
Rated PG, runtime about 1 hour 49 minutes.
