ST. LOUIS — The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has classified an ongoing voluntary recall of six hand soap products made by Intercon Chemical Co. as Class II, citing potential bacterial contamination that could lead to temporary or medically reversible health issues.
The classification, issued in a September 11 enforcement report and widely reported on September 16, elevates the risk level for products first recalled by the company on June 29. Class II means use of the products may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences, though the chance of serious outcomes is considered remote.
Two of the soaps — Intercon Foaming Pear Hand Soap With Aloe and Clearly Better by Intercon Foaming Pear Hand Soap With Aloe — may contain specific bacteria including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Pseudomonas putida, Pseudomonas monteilii, Serratia marcescens, and Serratia nematodiphila.
