Spoilers ahead. Netflix's eighth episode, “Carnival,” brings Lizzie Borden's story together with the later life and death of Aileen Wuornos.
What happens to Lizzie?
After her acquittal, the series shows Lizzie living at Maplecroft and struggling with the public legacy of the murders. Her relationship with her sister Emma deteriorates, while Bridget eventually returns to Lizzie's life.
What happens to Bridget?
The finale presents Bridget leaving an unhappy marriage and returning to Lizzie. The two women then move toward a new life and become involved with the suffrage movement.
What happens to Aileen Wuornos?
The series cuts between Lizzie's story and Wuornos' later execution. Sarah Paulson plays Wuornos, whose story is used as a thematic counterpart to Lizzie's.
What does the final scene mean?
The finale connects Lizzie and Bridget with Wuornos in an intentionally ambiguous sequence. It can be read as a spiritual or symbolic connection, but the show leaves the precise meaning open to interpretation.
Historical context
The finale contains major dramatization. Netflix's historical material distinguishes the real Borden case from the fictionalized story created for the series, so viewers should not treat every event in the finale as historical fact.
Quick answer
The finale ends with Lizzie and Bridget moving toward a new life while the series symbolically connects Lizzie's legacy to Aileen Wuornos. The final encounter is deliberately ambiguous.

Fact-check note
This article distinguishes the Netflix dramatization from documented history. Lizzie Borden was acquitted in 1893; claims about guilt, private relationships, motives and events not established by surviving records are described as fictionalized or disputed rather than settled fact.
